Employer policies and the immigrant–native earnings gap

We use longitudinal data from the income tax system to study impacts of firms’ employment and wage-setting policies on level change in immigrant–native wage differences Canada. focus immigrants who arrived early 2000s, distinguishing between those with without a college degree two broad groups countries – U.S., U.K. Northern Europe, rest world. Consistent growing literature based two-way fixed effects model Abowd, Kramarz, Margolis (1999), we find that firm-specific premiums explain significant share earnings inequality Canada contribute average gap natives.
